Chesworth Counseling & Support
Online Therapy in California and North Carolina
Anxiety is the worst. It can steal all of your joy and make even the very best things in life feel burdensome. Some days it is more of a subtle, annoying distraction. Other times it can come over you like a wave and completely consume you. However it plays out, anxiety makes it difficult to be content, enjoy life and be yourself.
On the outside, everything might appear to be just fine. You have it all together. You are motivated, intelligent, successful, accomplished and organized. You probably have achieved a great deal in academics, your career, family life, friendships or life experiences. Because of all of this, people might not even realize you have anxiety. Or if they do notice something, they might chalk it up to you just being a perfectionist, an over thinker, a go-getter, an overachiever, a planner or detail-oriented.
And maybe some or all of this is true. But you know that these terms don’t capture the full picture of what is going on inside of you. Behind the scenes is an underlying anxiety that you are desperately trying to avoid with all of this “doing.” And perhaps because you are such a high functioning person and things appear to be pretty good in your life, you haven’t reached out for help yet.
Whatever ways your anxiety impacts your daily living, it has left you feeling like you are in somewhat of a stuck place. Stuck between the life you are currently living and the life you know is possible. At one point or another, you might have pictured another version of yourself. It is still you, but it is the version of you that you know you are capable of becoming. The you who is free from all the anxiety that has been holding you back all this time and keeping you from experiencing real joy and contentment.
That is where I come in. I am passionate about working with individuals who are ready to be free from anxiety so that they can begin living their best lives. Through the use of clinically tested and proven techniques, I will help you take on this challenge so that you can begin living your very best you. You can learn more about me below. Hi there! I'm Dr. Britney Chesworth.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker, therapist, researcher, educator, and author. For nearly a decade, my private practice has focused exclusively on the treatment of anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. I specialize in evidence based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention.
Alongside my professional training, I also bring personal insight into this work. I have lived with anxiety my whole life and know just how consuming and limiting it can be. Earlier in my own journey, I tried many well-intentioned strategies that provided only temporary relief. It was not until I learned how anxiety is maintained and began using CBT and exposure-based approaches that meaningful improvement occurred. I am passionate about helping people break free from the anxiety cycle.
In addition to my work, I also love a good joke, hiking, running, weight lifting, binge watching a good TV series and reading fantasy fiction. I live in Southern California with my husband and two children.
Let's Get StartedWhat is CBT?
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has been my main therapeutic orientation for years now. Initially, I decided to specialize in CBT because of its robust evidence-base. But once I started seeing firsthand just how much these techniques helped my clients address their anxiety (as well as seeing these results in my own personal therapy), I became passionate about using it. Our sessions will be very action-oriented and skills-based. You will walk away from each session with new skills and tools that you can begin using immediately.
Learn about CBTMy Anxiety Specialties...
I have several "anxiety specialties" or challenges that I treat under what I would consider the "umbrella" of anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. The conceptual models and practical strategies we will use in our work together will depend on the type of anxiety you struggle with and how it presents in your life. Check out some examples below to get a glimpse of what it will look like to work with me (note that we may use a combination of these approaches, depending on your specific needs).
